About the Institute

We are a university research institute that creates change towards sustainable futures by conducting independent project based research for Australian and international clients. We work on projects across a range of research areas using a variety of approaches. These projects foster lasting change and we aim to build independent capacity in our clients by passing on knowledge and skills. We focus on innovation and our research often extends sustainability practice and contributes to current thinking. Our clients are in government, industry and community organisations.

Our researchers come from varied backgrounds, including engineering, architecture, management, economics, science, the social sciences, international studies and political studies. Most have worked in both government and commercial environments, so we know how to deliver independent and practical solutions to suit the needs of a diverse range of clients. We are small enough to offer our clients personalised service and large enough to offer a diversity of research skills.

Our contract research for external clients co-exists with the academic research of students undertaking postgraduate degrees through research.

We are committed to improving the sustainability of our own workplace and report annually to our stakeholders on the environmental, social and economic impact of our activities.
