Water futures: emerging water-related issues in the Asia-Pacific

The objectives of this research project are to identify emerging water-related issues of importance to the Australian development cooperation program and foreign policy, specifically those affecting the poor. This research would focus on the applicability of futures methods in the analysis of development issues in this region.

Water is a high-priority issue internationally, with implications for conflict, security, health and livelihoods, particularly in the face of increasing water scarcity, global warming and the poor progress thus far towards MDGs. This project will identify emerging global water issues, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific, future impacts on water and sanitation and appropriate policy responses utilizing innovative futures methodologies and scenario building.
