Global governance for sustainability

An important aspect of the transition to a sustainable future is to develop governance systems that are capable of consistently making decisions and taking actions that deliver sustainable outcomes. These governance systems must span scales, from local, to regional, to national, to global. There are many live research questions in this area:

  • What form might a global governance system take that can deliver sustainability?
  • How can governance at multiple scales be integrated for sustainable outcomes?
  • What is the role of the nation state in a global governance system?
  • How can deliberative democracy contribute to governance across multiple scales?
